Exhibition of Handmade Fine Art Prints
The Parks Theatre will be hosting an exciting new exhibition opening at 6pm on June 17. An opportunity to be immersed in global culture with printmaker Julia Wakefield’s exhibition of three of the recent exchanges she’s been involved in.
“Fear and Peace” combines the work of over two hundred artists’ work from all over the world. A unique window into other cultures, print exchanges provide artists with an opportunity to collaborate with people from other countries, express ideas which may be repressed within their own culture, and reach out to the rest of the world.
The Peace Puzzle Print Exchange of 2015 is the 4th international print exchange coordinated by Cuban American artist Maria Arango. Participants are each sent a piece of the puzzle to carve, which Maria then prints out on her woodblock press, creating a giant set of prints for each artist. The City of the World was produced in a similar fashion in 2012.
The International Print Exchange Programme India is run every year by Rajesh Pullarwar. It began as “a platform for exchanging thoughts and techniques dedicated to the ‘artist printmakers’ worldwide. 2015’s theme, ‘FEAR: Horror/Terror’ is a universal experience which haunts humanity…”
These three print exchanges are brought together for the first time at The Parks Theatre to create an exciting multicultural exhibit.
