Monotype Drawing Workshop Day 2

July 2, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

June 25th and July 2nd

 10-4pm with lunch break.

Maximum participants 8, minimum 4.

Cost:  $110 for members and $130 for non-members.

Introduction to plate making and printing monotypes using non-toxic materials (water soluble colour pencils; water soluble ink pencils; and water-soluble crayons).   This workshop is for beginners and experienced printmakers both.  Participants will produce a series of three or more prints using both line and wash.  Serialization is a creative technique where ideas and narrative can grow.

FIRST DAY

The workshop will begin with a discussion and a survey of historical monotype techniques and the works of artists who embraced this process, especially serialization.

Our aim is to start with an image and see it as the first in a sequence, complete in itself, but like all imagery full of suggestions for subsequent print/s.

1.  Prepare acrylic plates using drafting film – (drafting film has a fine tooth surface which faithfully receives and prints both pencil marks and washes)

2.  Select images from prepared work – or work intuitively on the plate.

3.  Learn how to use a guide to transfer original drawing to plate.

4.  Demonstration using a variety of drawing and painting mediums and techniques.

5.  Drawing on the plate.

6.  Preparing Japanese paper for printing.

7.  Printing

SECOND DAY

1.  Review of prints and techniques from 1st day of workshop.

2.  Discuss how to proceed with the second image using the ghost plate.

3.  Demonstrate colour wash technique.

4.  Third and final image in our series will incorporate wash.
