Photopolymer Relief and Intaglio, Julia Wakefield
April 8 and 22 2018, 10am – 4pm. Participants can attend either or both of these workshops.
Workshop 1: Photopolymer Relief prints can be as fine as wood engravings or they can be as spontaneous as woodcuts – and they have a unique quality of their own. Participants will be shown two ways of working with photopolymer in relief: a) using found objects, exposed directly onto the plate and b) drawing on a transparency or scratching into film coated with opaque ink. At least one plate using each method will be produced and printed, with and without the use of a press.
Workshop 2: Intaglio photopolymer prints can resemble etchings, but they also preserve the qualities of a drawing in a similar way to lithographs. Participants will be shown two ways of working with photopolymer in intaglio: a) using found objects, exposed directly onto the plate and b) drawing on drafting film and textured film, using a variety of materials. At least one plate using each method will be produced and printed, using an etching press.
