4 Plate, Spit Bite, Color Etching Workshop with Stephen Lawlor

This 3 day workshop will focus on allowing participants to adapt their existing practice from single plate etching to multi coloured images. The following aspects will be covered:

  1. How to transfer from the darkest (master) plate to the other 3 plates
  2. How to separate colours and divide between the plates in order to build up a rich layering of colours that work together in unison for richness, density and a vibrant result.
  3. More specific technical aspects such as registration, mixing colour, wiping, control of plate tone and many other detailed ways of achieving better control over the production of consistent and strong prints will be covered.

– Please bring your own printmaking materials – such as etching tools paper, Color inkstarlatanroulette, drypoint needle, silk rags (for wiping plates) and 4 copper plates (about 20×15 cm). More specific details will be forwarded on enrolment.

– Maximum of 6-8 participants, with priority for members.

– Workshop fees: Members, A$480. Non-members, A$500. For each non-member, $20 of the $500 fee will be paid to Bittondi for one year of Associate Membership. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to secure your place.
