John Neylon

John Neylon is an artist, curator and author/art writer based in Adelaide. He has written continuously as a media critic, on the visual arts since the 1980s, was Head of Education Art Gallery of South Australia (1988 – 2005) and lectured in Art History, University of Adelaide and Adelaide Central School of Art (2005 –  2020).

He studied printmaking under Franz Kempf and Barbara Hanrahan and is represented in the Art Gallery of South Australia and State Library SA collections.

While art administration, research and writing have comprised a significant amount of professional life, he has maintained a studio practice and recently re-engaged with printmaking, (primarily etching). His subjects and images reflect a curiosity about the visual world, underpinned by an eye for quotidian absurdity and the ironic.
